OPS Board of Certification

The Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society (OPS) created the Board of Certification (BOC)
in 1979. The OPS BOC serves as the formal body responsible for the certification of
retinal angiographers, ophthalmic photographers and ophthalmic tomographers.

The BOC’s foremost certification is the Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) program.
The OPS administered the first CRA exam in 1979. The National Commission for
Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited the CRA program in 1999, and reaccredited it in 2005.

CRA Certification requires submission of work examples that meet established
standards as well as successful completion of written and performance examinations.
To date, more than 740 ophthalmic photographers have attained the Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) credential. For more information, download the CRA Program Guide (PDF).

The BOC launched a certification program for Ocular Optical Coherence Tomography
(OCT-C)
Imaging in July of 2007. OCT-C certification requires submission of work
examples that meet established standards and successful completion of a written
examination. For more information, check out the OCT-C Certification Program Guide (PDF).
