Educational Opportunities

The Ophthalmic Photographers' Society sponsors a wide variety of educational programs from introductory courses to advanced topics in diagnostic imaging which are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of diagnostic imagers.

Annual Educational Programs are held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Generally organized into three or four consecutive time lines of courses and workshops, the programs generally run from Saturday through Wednesday of Academy week. Attendees register for the specific courses they wish to attend, and the overall registration fees are dependent upon the course hours and workshops selected. Typical OPS Annual Educational Programs include a Scientific Session of papers presented on a variety of ophthalmic imaging techniques and innovations, courses on new and emerging technologies, and social functions including a Cocktail Reception and Awards Banquet. The Annual Business Meeting of the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society is held during the Annual Educational Program.

Mid-Year courses are also sponsored by the OPS, often in collaboration with regional chapters of the OPS. These courses are often centered on a particular theme like Anterior Segment Imaging, Digital Imaging, or Fundus Photography and Fluorescein Angiography. Normally presented as a logical progression of lectures and workshops, registrants are usually charged a single registration fee for the entire program.

The International Conference on Ophthalmic Photography (ICOP) is a joint venture of The Australian Institute of Medical and Biological Illustration (AIMBI), The Japanese Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (JOPS), The Ophthalmic Imaging Association (OIA), and The Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS). Since 1986 it has been held every four years at venues around the world, featuring over 20 hours of scientific papers, international presentations, and invited lectures.

Continuing Education Credits for Certified Retinal Angiographers may be obtained at any OPS sponsored course. In addition, the list of CEC Opportunities maintained on this page have all been reviewed by the Board of Certification and granted varying levels of CEC's. While the OPS is not affiliated with many of these courses, they are a resource for primary and continuing education in ophthalmic diagnostic imaging.
